You said 'There is another installation of the same product on another user's computer'.
Unless you purchased multiple licenses and IF that other person has registered, the license you're trying to use on this machine is invalid and it will keep telling you.

Have licenses

We have 15 licenses. Both of these machines have valid licenses. Acrobat 8 was purchased approx. 1 year ago.
It downloads and registers the e-license without a problem. It just keeps asking for registration info no matter what you do.

Edit the registry

To disable registration for Acrobat 8, you need to make the following change to the registry:

Thanks for the previous reply to edit the registry. I didn't try that one but I did find a solution by modifying Adobe's own advice.
Adobe addresses the problem at: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406967.html
They say to find the 'AdobeViewer' key but the location they point you to doesn't have it. I decided to search for 'AdobeViewer' and found it in another place. I deleted the key then reinstalled. It worked this time.
